September 2008
With the following leagues starting during the
first part of September there is no news as of yet on team progress. However a
full report on these leagues will commence with the October newsletter update.
The
Sunday League Skittles The
first games start on Sunday 7th.September with last years league
runner-ups, Pistol Packing Mammas, being one of the teams starting the season
with a match against the Thunderballs. The other opening game of the season will
be The Fogies against The “A” Team

Our
Ladies Season get underway on the 8th.September so for more
information on their progress look out for our October report.
Three
Counties Skittle League - operates
on Monday nights and our Club team The Tree Rats will be doing their best again
next season. Having been bottom of
the league for the last few years any improvement will be counted as a success.
In contrast the following league has just concluded
its season with some success coming to both of Thorncombe’s teams.
Summer
Club’s League –
This
league has now drawn to a close with the last games being played on the 22nd.August.
Thorncombe “B” had a great finish that included big wins against The
Latecomers who were last year’s champions and the eventual winners this season
and Thorncombe Tornadoes. The
Tornadoes made up for their set back against the “B” team when they came
from nowhere to grab the League runner-up spot after beating the most likely
challengers, Axe Vale “A”, in their very last game of the season.
Unfortunately, in a reversal of fortunes, the Tornadoes did not
successfully defend their position of last years Knock-out Cup Champions and
lost their final match against Axe Vale “A” by just one pin!
Chris
Atyeo of Thorncombe “B”
(pictured left) successfully defended his Men’s Individual title at the
Axminster Conservative Club on the Leagues Presentation Night. It was not a
run-a-way victory as he just saw off the challenge from Lloyd Dare of Wootton
Club by just one pin with his very last throw of the night.
