Thorncombe Football Club |
![]() |
Thorncombe Football Club play on Saturday afternoons in the Perry Street and District League, a league consisting of five divisions based around Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne in Somerset, along with clubs from just over the border in Devon and Dorset. The champion team from the highest division – the Premier – can apply to be elected to their respective county leagues, which in turn support the Screwfix Western League and then the Doc Martens’ League. We are very much near the bottom of the football pyramid!! |
| Although Thorncombe have never set the football world alight, we have in the past had some reasonably successful teams within the Perry Street League. It would be fair to say that in recent years the Football Club has been somewhat in the doldrums, and may well have gone out of existence were it not for the dedication and effort put in by manager Gary Parsley to keep our two sides going. | ![]() |
| A slow but purposeful rebuilding of the Football Club is now in its second season – at the end of the last one we won the John Fowler Cup, the first trophy won by a Thorncombe side for about thirteen years, and at one stage of the season we lost only two games in sixteen. We also had the league’s highest goalscorer, with Stuart Packer hitting sixty-one goals in 26 games. | ![]() |
We are a young, relatively inexperienced side with a team in Division Three and the Reserves in Division Four. We have excellent facilities and two pitches regarded as amongst the best locally – indeed our pitches are often chosen as venues for Cup Finals. |

We
are always on the lookout for new players, or for anyone who would like
to get involved in any way. Our training nights are Tuesdays at
the Thorncombe Thorn, ground starting at 6.30.
